My name is Lauren Snailham. I am a Clinical Psychologist working in private practice in Durban, Kwazulu Natal, South Africa. I work with children, adolescence and adults with a variety of psychological difficulties. These mostly include anxiety, depression, trauma, divorce, child abuse, bullying, low self-esteem, loss and bereavement, ADHD, behaviour problems and personality issues.
My work includes assessment, play therapy, psychotherapy and psycho education. As I work with children I am always on the look out for new creative techniques and activities that I can use in play therapy in the hope that I can help children cope with their life situations. Some of the stories I have written are used more often than others but this usually depends on the needs of the child that I am working with. Some of the stories are used individually and sometimes I may use more than one.
I have had a lot of fun creating these stories and using them in therapy with the children I have treated and I am glad to be sharing them with others who work with children. I have also seen firsthand the positive effects theses stories have in helping children cope with the unique challenges and problems they are faced with, from loss, anxiety, abuse and bullying to behaviour and personality issues.
I was invited to contribute my play therapy techniques to two books titled "Creative Family and Therapy Techniques" and "Assessment and Treatment Activities for Children, Adolescents and Families. Volume 3: Practitioners Share Their Most effective Techniques", compiled and editored by best-selling author and speaker, Liana Lowenstein.
My books have also been translated into Romanian and are being used by Psychologists in Romania.
